Firewise Communities/USA

Fire Safe Council East Orange County Canyons has been recognized as a Firewise Communities/USA site by the national Firewise Communities program for its efforts to reduce the vulnerability of homes and landscapes to wildfire.  The Firewise Communities approach emphasizes emergency response, and individual responsibility for safer home construction and design, landscaping and maintenance.  There are over 700 Firewise communities in 40 states.  Obtaining this nationally recognized status has many benefits, some of which include Framework for Action, Learning about Wildfire, Peace of Mind, Community-Building, Citizen Pride, Publicity and Access to Funding and Assistance.

Please be watching for more information regarding what this means for our canyon residents and communities.

Firewise News

One of our goals is to encourage residents to have address signs on their homes. We sold signs at Christmas in the Canyons. Signs should be 4" numbers on contrasting backgrounds. Address signs help to locate your home in an emergency, or just for visitors.

We also encourage private streets to be marked. It just makes sense, and is in the fire code.

More Information

Many residents are getting canceled by their insurance companies because the company perceives the ISO rating is not high enough. OCFA provides excellent fire protection. This letter clarifying the Modjeska rating may help.
